Our Work
Co-Designed Solutions Tailored for You
Supporting Teachers in Leading Text-Based Discussions
We partnered with middle school and secondary teachers to support their efforts to lead classroom discussions that positioned students as active thinkers and meaning-makers. Through collaborative planning and analysis of classroom interactions, teachers developed new strategies for helping students build on one another’s ideas, use textual evidence, and sustain deeper conversations. Over time, classrooms shifted from teacher-led recitation toward more student-driven dialogue and collective reasoning.
Building Instructional Coaching Capacity
We worked with instructional coaches in a large public school district to strengthen their ability to support teacher learning. Through ongoing meetings and structured reflection, coaches examined challenges in their work, explored new coaching strategies, and developed tools to help teachers rethink curriculum and classroom instruction. Coaches reported that this partnership helped them ask more productive questions, support deeper teacher reflection, and guide meaningful instructional change.
Supporting Disciplinary Literacy Across Content Areas
We partnered with teachers and coaches across subject areas to help students engage in the authentic thinking and practices of academic disciplines. This work focused on designing tasks that asked students to analyze evidence, construct arguments, and communicate their reasoning. Teachers developed new approaches to instruction that increased student engagement and supported deeper understanding of disciplinary content.
Enhancing Early Math Discourse and Instruction
We partnered with elementary teachers to strengthen mathematics instruction by co-designing strategies that support productive classroom discussion. Together, we developed conversation routines and teacher supports that helped students explain their thinking, justify their reasoning, and engage with one another’s ideas. Over time, classroom discourse shifted toward student-centered sense-making, and teachers reported greater confidence facilitating meaningful discussions. Analysis of instruction showed increased use of practices that surfaced student thinking and supported more responsive teaching.
Co-Designing Writing Instruction to Increase Student Voice and Ownership
In collaboration with high school teachers, we redesigned writing assignments to better support students’ voice, creativity, and analytical thinking. Together, we developed more open-ended prompts, clearer supports for the writing process, and opportunities for peer collaboration. These changes resulted in more original student work, stronger arguments, and increased student investment in writing.
Advancing Deeper Learning Through Text-Based Inquiry
We partnered with high school science teachers to co-design and evaluate a research-based instructional tool that helped students construct scientific explanations from complex texts. Together, we developed structured prompts that supported integration and elaborative reasoning, improving students’ ability to build explanations and apply their learning to new problems. This work demonstrates how research-based scaffolds can strengthen complex thinking and support deeper, transferable understanding.
